Greetings

Thais greet with a wai — palms together at chest height with a small bow.

  • Add khrap (men) or kha (women) to the end of sentences for politeness.
  • Return a wai when greeted, but you don't need to wai children or service staff.
  • Sawadee khrap/kha = hello. Khop khun khrap/kha = thank you.
  • Use Khun + first name as a respectful form of address.
